Catherine Daniel, originally from Edmonton, graduated from the University of Manitoba where she studied with Tracy Dahl. She continued her studies at the Atelier Lyqrique de l’Opéra de Montréal where she sang such roles as Wowkle in Fanciulla Del West, the 2nd spirit in Verdi’s Macbeth,Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte and Third Lady in Magic Flute. Her European debut came with Opera Studio Netherlands (OSN) where she appeared in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in 2009. The following spring she appeared as Mercedes in Manitoba Opera’s production of Carmen and that fall she sang La Messagiera in Monteverdi’s Orfeo as part of OSN’s 20th anniversary. She returned to Canada soon after to sing Messiahwith the University of Manitoba Choirs and the annual Opera Gala in Montreal. The 2011 season opened with more concerts and the OSN’s production of Cosi fan tutte and she was guest soloist with Canzona in two fundraising concerts for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank in October. Catherine is delighted to return to Winnipeg to be a part of Canzona’s latest production.
